Now accepting applicants for Spring 2024 Program!

Women of Color

More technically skillful, the female screenwriters of today are diversifying genres and changing the landscape by creating more female-driven stories, told with more courage and confidence than ever. Modern screenpay mavens like Diablo Cody and Greta Gerwig, have proven to be both creatively and financially bankable. So, with this fantastic and long-overdue wave of recognition and success for female screenwriters, we look to create opportunities for women of color. For every Phoebe Waller-Bridge, there must be a Chloe Zao. For every Amanda Silver, there is a Shonda Rhimes. If you are skilled a screenwriter, who identifies as a woman of color, and who has a unique and indelible cinematic voice, the Spring 2024 M Film Lab is for you.

Write & submit a screenplay following the guidelines below:

Submit your best 10-12-minute short film screenplay, genre & topic of your choosing, and show us why you belong in our lab. While this is an opportunity for Women of Color, the scripts should not be, necessarily, about Women of Color. This is a blank canvas for you to showcase your creativity and unique voice. So we encourage you to explore freely, and not be hindered by any sense of expectation. Six (6) talented women of color will be selected to participate in the week-long lab, and one winner will be selected to have her short film produced.
