If you are a children’s writer or dream of being one – this contest is for you! ! In partnership with Pinna, the first and only audio streaming service custom made for kids, we are looking for great screenwriters to write a fun and engaging 3-5 page pilot episode and season outline for a Short-Form scripted audio series for children ages 8 to 12 years to be hosted on Pinna.

You may choose any topic and genre so long as you write a charming podcast to entertain young listeners with a creative story, memorable characters, and interesting premises that spark the imagination and curiosity of the young listeners.

This contest is open to all registered members of Open Screenplay. Contest begins on December 1, 2022 at 12:00 AM (ET) and ends on February 11 at 11:59 PM (ET). There are a total of three (3) prizes available to be won as follows: one (1) First Place Prize consisting of a license fee cash award of USD $1,000, and in Contest Partner’s sole discretion, the option of production, one (1) Second Place Prize consisting of a license fee cash award of USD $500, and one (1) Third Place Prize consisting of a license fee cash award of USD $250. Contest is open to Open Screenplay Members, excluding residents of Quebec, Canada, who are 13 years of age or older at the time of entry (parental or guardian consent required if entrant is under the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry). Casey is an inquisitive camper with a knack for solving mysteries. In a camp full of magical creatures, woodland animals, and crazy campers and counselors, there are plenty of opportunities for her to share her talents.

The tone is lighthearted and is primarily told through conversations between Casey and the head counselor Margo after Casey draws attention to herself while solving a mystery.

Episode 1 - Steve the stuffed Dragon is missing and Casey is on the case! During an incident report meeting, Casey explains to Margo, the head counselor, her sleuthing process and reveals that the local pixies borrowed Steve for a photo shoot. She then explains how she and the other campers worked together to build a worthy trade for Steve. Episode 2 - All of cabin 6's shoes have gone missing and Casey is on the case! During another incident report meeting, she explains to Margo that a recent storm made the briar patch impassable and a family of raccoons borrowed the shoes to get to their burrow without hurting themselves. She then explains that she and the make-your-mark class cleared away the loose briars in exchange for the shoes. Episode 3 - All of the cookies from the camp kitchen are missing and Casey is on the case! Having been hired by Margo this time, Casey reports the process of her sleuthing and reveals that all the seven-year-olds banded together to raid the kitchen during shower hour. Casey explains that after their sugar high, they all crashed in their cabins and are fast asleep. Episode 4 - It's been rainy all week and Casey is on the case! She explains her sleuthing process to Margo and reveals that the Camp Spirit has been upset because of all the litter that has washed into the river and woods. Casey explains that she launched a camp-wide cleaning effort to clear the litter out of camp and brought back the sunshine. Episode 5 - All of the arrows are missing from the archery shed and Casey is on the case! During another incident report meeting Casey explains her sleuthing efforts and reveals that the local centaurs broke all of their arrows and stole the camps' as a replacement. Casey explains that she gave them a lecture on stealing and then offered the camp woodshop to help them make more. Episode 6 - All of the bunks in the boys' and girls' cabins have been flipped over and Casey is on the case! The prank war between the girls' and boys' cabins is raging on, but both teams insist that they had no part in this prank. Casey explains her sleuthing process and reveals Margo as the culprit! Margo admits that she and the other counselors were responsible, waging their own prank war! Episode 7 - The mermaids are on strike and Casey is on the case! She explains to Margo her sleuthing and reveals that the runoff from the camp is causing more algae in the lake and the mermaids have been getting sick. Casey organizes a cleanup of the lake and works with the nature class to come up with a solution to reduce the chemicals in the runoff. Episode 8 - The drama class' props have gone missing on the night of the performance and Casey is on the case! Casey explains to Margo her sleuthing process and reveals that the props were accidentally taken by the make-your-mark class for renovation. Casey explains that she managed to solve the case and get the props back right before the big performance! Episode 9 - There's been a loud roaring in the woods for the past two nights and Casey is on the case! Casey explains to Margo her sleuthing process and reveals that there's been a minotaur living in a shallow cave in the woods and the rain has been making his fur wet and cold. Casey explains that she helped him find a deeper and warmer cave to live in, and with the help of the outdoor survival class, helped him build a shelter. Episode 10 - All of the dishes are missing from the kitchen and Casey is on the case! During an incident report meeting, Casey explains her sleuthing process to Margo and reveals that all the forest creatures borrowed them for a thanksgiving-style dinner together. Casey admits that she and her friends went to the dinner and helped them with the dishes.

I grew up going to this old-fashioned summer camp in the woods and was later a counselor there when I got older. Kids have a fantastic way of thinking and helping each other, and I'd love to think that fun fairytale creatures live in the woods around us. I also was obsessed with mysteries as a child, so it felt fitting.
