Challenging Stereotypes & Celebrating Arab-American Identity
WIN $1500 USD
+ Chance to be produced
CONTEST TOPIC:
It’s time to Remix the Script! In celebration of Arab Heritage Month, Open Screenplay is partnering with Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) to host a groundbreaking screenplay competition that seeks to challenge and subvert stereotypes about Arab American identity in film.
For far too long, we, as Arab Americans, have not seen ourselves and our stories reflected or represented on screen. There is a significant importance to telling an authentic, nuanced story that reflects the complexity and beauty of the Arab-American experience. This competition is an opportunity for writers of ALL levels and experiences to showcase their creativity and originality while also contributing to a broader cultural conversation about identity and representation. We are looking for stories that break free from tired tropes and one-dimensional characterizations and instead offer fresh perspectives and authentic portrayals of Arab American life. Whether it's a coming-of-age drama set in a Detroit suburb, a romantic comedy that celebrates the intersection of cultures, or a suspenseful thriller that challenges preconceived notions about Middle Eastern politics, we want to see your unique vision brought to life on the page.
The winning screenplay will be awarded a cash prize, and finalists and semi-finalists will receive feedback and exposure from top professionals and producers in the entertainment industry.
Storytelling has the power to transform the way we see ourselves and each other. Join us in breaking down barriers and reshaping the narrative about Arab American identity.
