The collaboration of two Canadian start-ups aims to open a dialogue through the power of storytelling and creativity.
TORONTO, May 1st 2020 – Layla, a mental health service that facilitates access to therapy, is delighted to announce its partnership with Open Screenplay to launch a screenwriting contest dedicated to facilitating an open dialogue about mental health.
The partnership signals a coming together of two innovators in their respective fields who share the common mission of empowering individuals.
“The contest encourages writers to use the immense power of storytelling to tackle the challenges of speaking openly about mental health,” said Samer Abughannam, founder and CEO of Layla, “working to replace stigma with empowerment and isolation with community”.
Recent events have left many people feeling anxious, isolated, lonely and with a loss of independence and control over their own life. These are difficult feelings for certain, but the truth is that for people living with persistent mental health challenges, these feelings aren’t new. Through the power of creativity and collaborative storytelling, we believe we can foster a greater sense of connection and community and begin to tackle the stigma that still too often surrounds the topic of mental health.
Coming off the heels of its successful Climate Change contest, Open Screenplay continues to focus its efforts on cause-based storytelling and putting its popular screen-writing platform and patented technology in the service of another worthwhile cause.
The contest submission period starts on May 1st, and runs until June 21st, 2020. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 screenplays totaling $2,250 and the 1st place winner will have their screenplay produced by Open Screenplay!
Guidelines for the contest are available on Open Screenplay’s contest page:
