Toronto, ON — Nov 19, 2025 — M Film Lab is proud to announce the selected winner of the Spring 2025 “Tales of Identity & Imagination” Lab, following one of the most competitive rounds in the program’s history. After an extended review period due to the exceptional quality of submissions, the Lab has selected Vanishing Point by Kays Al-Atrakchi as this year’s winning script.
Vanishing Point is a gripping and socially resonant story about Wes and his adopted Arab American sister Alima, who embark on a perilous journey across Texas to escape mandatory registration and anti-Arab crackdowns. The script combines emotional depth, taut suspense, and a piercing exploration of belonging and identity in a polarized society. Reviewers praised the script for its cinematic pacing, well-drawn characters, and compelling themes that align strongly with the mission of M Film Lab: to elevate underrepresented voices and spotlight stories rooted in identity, displacement, imagination, and resilience.
As the chosen winner, Kays Al-Atrakchi will receive an option fee for M Film Lab to begin developing Vanishing Point toward production.
“We were moved by the vulnerability and courage in all the submitted stories,” said the M Film Lab founder Mohannad Malas, “This year’s finalists brought forward an extraordinary range of voices and perspectives, making this selection one of our toughest yet. We believe the jury selected a powerful and relevant script that will resonate with audiences.”
M Film Lab thanks all who participated and looks forward to continuing its mission of nurturing bold, original voices in storytelling.
